4/8/21 - The History of The Grift rolls on to 2006. LIVE SHOWS are on the horizon...
Lots of excitement starting to build as live shows are staring to be on the horizon. We continue our history series with the year 2006. There is a blog post here with memories and pictures. There is also a great acoustic video from Clint and Peter of the song Tell Me over to your right. Enjoy.
We have decided to press the pause button on our history series with all of us getting a bit busier. We are shifting our focus from the past to the future:). Although we plan on continuing the history series, it will definitely slow down a bit so we can focus on the year ahead. We are starting to plan some really fun, epic shows for The Grift. Peter and Clint have both been working on and recording solo projects. Clint is launching a new solo website for all of his projects in music and beyond. Dojo will probably play some shows. Treetop Mansion will probably play some shows. Honeywell will probably play some shows. You get the picture.
Along those lines, just pencil us into your calendar for a tentative get together on June 4th, 2021. We will release details as they become available, but we are shooting for some kind of party with a little bit of live music, within some guidelines... Let's all cross our fingers and get our shots:). Feel free to join our mailing list above if you are interested in being the first to know about our upcoming performances.
3/2/21 - The History of The Grift Series rolls on with the year 2005...
The band revisits the year 2005 in the history of The Grift series, another year of the band that saw the continued lineup of Clint, Peter, Jeff and Neil. We also started having a certain special guest more and more often, Mr. Peter Nilsson on keyboards. He was working at Deerfield Academy at the time, and he would join us whenever possible. This included a few EPIC gigs at Deerfield Academy for the students as well as many other shows. Some other memorable shows from 2005 were the Lilac Festival in Rochester, NY, a third installment of our Do The Deck party in West Addison, shows in Oregon, Colorado, the Midwest, another Southern tour, and of course a ton in the Northeast.
As usual, we have recounted some more of our memories of the year over at our web page for the History of The Grift. You can check out memories of the year as well as the pictures. As always seems to be the case, there are definitely some gems.
The video on the right is a great rendition of The Grift song, Aluminum. Enjoy this great acoustic version with a little backstory by Peter, who wrote the song with some inspiration from part of his family.
2/13/21 - Another year of history with 2004. New T-shirt design and some previously unreleased music!
We carry on with the year 2004 in the history of The Grift series, a huge year for the band. So many highlights to this year, with the biggest probably being the release of Life Beyond Aluminum, the second full-length studio album. It was arguably their most ambitious, with a bit of a new sound. Jeff had transitioned to the turntables most of the time, which created a whole new dynamic. It was an amazing recording session in Buffalo, NY with major help from Dave Koltai, Greg Tobler and Gary Mallaber on the producing of this album. The year also saw the band play close to 200 shows, capped off with a 4300 mile Southern tour in December of 2004. The band was really hustling.
The video to the right was recorded recently by Clint and Peter of the song In Between Takes from Life Beyond Aluminum. Make sure to check out The History of The Grift page to check out all goodies from 2004, which includes the previously unreleased Garage Sessions, Volume One & Volume Two. We also have a new t-shirt design with a marker drawing by Peter that we really love. It pays homage to our van - The Ayatollah of Rock & Rolla. Happy Valentine's Day to all you lovers out there!
1/28/21 - The History of The Grift series rolls on with the year 2003, the year Peter showed up!
This was a year that saw Clint and Jeff transitioning well to being back in the East. Clint, Neil and Jeff were living in West Addison practicing and playing shows at a frenetic pace. There were a bunch of boarding school gigs, a massively successful CD release party for The Grift Live 2003 (available for free download) at Nectar's in Burlington, and the largest part of the year was the addition of Mr. Peter Day.
We continue our history series with a blog post on our History of The Grift page about the year 2003. Stop on over and check out all the changes that took place as the Vermont power trio transformed into the power quartet. The video to the right is of the song Welcome to Jonesville. It's a great version (featuring Matt Schrag on mandolin) of a song that was on heavy rotation in 2003. There are also some great photos - many of which are courtesy of our good friend, Pokey (Scott Pokrywa), who was one of our biggest supporters in those early days. He basically let us use his place as a hotel when we were in Boston:)...
12/17/20 - History of The Grift Series continues with the last episode of 2020! (Buh-bye, dumpster fire of a year!)
It feels so good to think that we are near the end of this wretched year, on to 2021! First and foremost, all of us in The Grift organization would like to wish you and yours a happy Holiday season. We hope it is filled with love, joy, a Merry Grift-mas and a Happy Ron-icah (Jeff has a nickname of Ron - more on that later). We hope this year hasn't been too hard on you and yours, we find that losing yourself in music always helps...
We continue with another blog post here for the year 2001, with some memories and photos from Jeff, Clint and Rian. We also see the introduction of memories from Peter and Neil. 2001 was a big year with the release of Sleeping Policeman, and some more of life in Boulder. As a celebration of the history series, Sleeping Policeman is now available for "Name Your Price". You can give us a donation if you'd like, but don't feel like you have to. Just share it with a friend if you download it for free:)? See you next year!
1/14/21 - Happy New Year! The History of The Grift series continues with 2002. T-Shirts now MADE IN THE USA:)!
Well, we made it to 2021. We were all hoping that things would just instantly get better when the sun had set on 2020, but it looks like we still have a ways to go to get back to our "new normal". We have been itching to play (and see, we are huge fans also) live music again! We know all of you are so excited for this as well, and we have been doing what we can to stay busy since our main focus (playing live) has been postponed for almost a year now.
Here's to a bright outlook for 2021, and a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who have supported the new website, bought something from the new online store, or even just listened and reconnected with The Grift again. The dark and dim days we have all been experiencing have been a little bit better knowing that all of you have been here to support our music and our careers as musicians, creators and performers.
We continue our history series with a blog post here about the year 2002. Stop on over and check out all the changes that took place as the Vermont power trio was formed. The video to the right is of the song You Say - written by Clint and Rich Price (The Sweet Remains) in 2002. One final note, we have been working on our online store, and we are proud to announce that all of our t-shirts are now made in the USA! We love to offer this whenever possible, and we don't mind paying a bit more for it. But we kept the price the same for you:). Grab 'em while they are hot! Until next time...
