Peter
Day

Peter has never
met an instrument he didn't like. He first picked up the trumpet
in fourth grade after an influential all school assembly featuring
Walter Chestnut (or was his name Chester Walnut... hard to remember)
In high school, the brass just wasn't enough, so he added guitar
to his repertoire, singing and playing every chance he got. The
musical passion was nurtured at home, where the singing never stopped
(Peter discovered the joy of singing harmonies at a early age, with
his mother and his sister who both sing very well, along with a
steady musical diet of Beatles, Doobie Brothers, Paul Simon, and
other fine music that would continue to shape his ear to this day.)
Peter originally came to Vermont to study at Middlebury College,
which proved to be fertile ground for performing and composing music
in all styles. He teamed up with musical co-conspirator David Koltai
for a variety of projects, from playing trumpet in a jazz quintet
to playing bass for various rock/funk/prog-pop/singer songwriter
endeavors. He learned a great deal from playing with and listening
to fellow musicians Koltai, Tyler Hersey, Keith Watts, and Courtney
Brocks (to name a few) In the process, he realized that laying down
funky bass lines was about as much fun as anything in the world.
He also encountered a few other musicians who would come to be known
as The Grift, and a musical friendship was forged in the Green Mountain
State.
Before joining the Grift, Peter followed his wanderlust, spending
time busking in the metro tunnels in Paris, bicycling (anywhere.
everywhere.) and writing songs with longtime friend and gifted musician
David Hunt, on porches and in living rooms anywhere from Kennebunkport
to Miami. Most recently, he lived in Atlanta, making the rounds
on the open mic scene with Ken 'Paul Simon' Kiser and honing his
bass-playing and songwriting skills. He is delighted to be back
in Vermont, and looking forward to bringing eclectic, energetic
music and tight harmonies to a club (or bar... or school... or college...
or subway tunnel) near you.
